Some sad news was received when our brother Richard let us know he had developed Stage 3 lung cancer a number of weeks ago. He was having trouble breathing and went to the hospital and they discovered a 4cm mass in the middle of his chest. He is currently undergoing radiation therapy and chemotherapy on a daily and weekly basis.
Richard is a fighter. He has beaten and overcome everything he’s ever been hit with and we fully expect him to overcome this as does Richard himself. He had one day he called “Disappearance Day” … a day he spent fully expecting this thing to disappear. This is his great attitude at work and he is up to the challenge and taking this on …. but he is up against it.
This is where the rest of us come in as we ask for prayers for our brother because we believe that prayer, especially prayer for a cause by many, is a real powerful thing and between all of our prayers and Richard’s own amazing attitude as he takes this on we feel Richard will win this one and come out on top. Thank you so much for your help and if you would like to leave Richard a message, please click on the comment balloon at the top of this message or the reply link under the message and scroll down to the form. We are so sorry to hear about your illness Richard. We enjoyed the concert
this past summer at Queens College. We will keep you and your family in our prayers and look forward to seeing you all again in March.
Thinking of you today Richard. Here down south it is sunny, a little cold and the leaves are beautiful. Our family is continuing to lift you in prayer. I pray today be blessed, and that God show you something that makes you smile 🙂
All our love,
The Youngblood family
Richard, soo many people are praying for you and wish you the best. Take care and god bless you and all of your family members. Some of the best music ever.
I hope the best for Richard. My father has a form of cancer called Multiable Mylenoma. He has done radiation therapy but we fear that the cancer might have spread. Even though he gets around with crutches, he does not look like someone with cancer. He is still living a active life.
So keep on going Richard and hang in there.
I thank you for your music–which I call “relentlessy happy.”
And that is a good thing–it has helped me over the tears when I was feeling down, so maybe it could do the same for you.
Love,
Don
Positive, healing thoughts my friend. Please be well 🙂
Richard, I will keep you in my prayers and I will mention this to my radio audience. God Bless you for being a fighter and I pray for all good things to come to you. You are a blessing. You and all the Cowsills are very special.
You are in my prayers,Richard…every day. You and the rest of your siblings have given me so much pleasure with your music for so many years. I’ve been a fan since the 60s and still listen to The Cowsills music on a regular basis. Global was so awesome! You are so very, very talented as are all of the Cowsills. Hang in there man! Healing vibes are surrounding you.
A warm hello to all of you. I spent this morning glued to my TV watching “A Family Band” on Sho Time. Like so many Boomer fans, I had no idea what your father put you through. I’m sorry about Barry and Bill. I think Richard just might beat this, though. He’s learned to rely on the love of his family (that he was once segregated from) and I will be including him in my prayers tonight. Hang tough, Richard.
Richard, prayers for you and your family.
Hi Richard, I am so sorry that you have lung cancer. My mother had suffered with it as well. My thoughts and prayers are with you so that you will heal quickly. First, “KNOW” that you are loved by many. Second, there is a great power with the intention for those wishing you well–BELIEVE in this…and… IMAGINE all those loving prayers filled with healing energy surrounding you inside and out. Those prayers are continuously coming your way. Allow them in. Feel them and know they are with you restoring your health. 🙂
With love, kindness, blessings and song, Anita Karin Mayer
Richard, I am so sorry to hear that you are battling Cancer, but I know that you will win It appears that you are strong and have conquered many obstacles in the past. I have loved your family’s music for decades. I attended a concert of theirs in1968 at Ball State University and had the pleasure of meeting Bob, Paul, Barry, John and Susan backstage. I remember that during the concert, they mentioned that you were in Vietnam and dedicated a song to you. Your mom sang the lead on it. I knew then that even though you weren’t on stage with your family that you were very much loved by them. You didn’t know it, but I was praying for you then and I’m praying for you now. Have faith and you’ll be fine. You are a winner! You are a Cowsill! I’m praying for you and your family until then. God bless!
Prayers to you…fight on.
WOW! I just read this….haven’t been keeping up w/ you guys for a while….I’m sorry to hear this news. I’ve been thru it meself and I know first hand how horrid chemo is….it sounds like your optimistic attitude is exactly what a time like this needs to be to beat it. I’m sending me prayers for you and your family to get thru this and to have it never return. God bless.
Richard,
My entire families thoughts and prayers are now with you as you overcome this latest hurdle. Your friendly voice and upbeat attitude regardless of the circumstances are one of the bright lights in what can often be a difficult day. Your class and positivity suits you well. I look forward to the Disappearance Day Celebration!!!!!
Your family is an amazing study in strength, faith and perseverance. Just saw the documentary on “Showtime” and I was blown away by your graciousness in the face of unimaginable circumstances. A prayer goes to Richard for better health, and a prayer to all of his remarkable siblings that they’ll be able to comfort him and themselves in this crisis. Thank you, truly, for such beautiful music.
I will pray for you. Having cancer is a life change,I had cancer 18 years ago and I came through with very much prayers. I hope and pray that you will. Your music is what I grew up with,as I was born in 1960. The song I love the flower girl has stayed in my head and it really takes me back. I love you guys,God bless.
Richard, I visited the Cowsills’ website today and was thunderstruck to learn of this latest challenge in your life. I have admired you and your family (excluding Bud) for 46 years now, and I once met you in Providence, Rhode Island. So I know you well by now and have learned that you are as tough as they come. You (and your siblings) have proven repeatedly that you are genetically very resilient. My friend Matthew is a lot like you, has many of your qualities, and he has been battling kidney and lung cancer for several years. He fights them with prayer, determination, and medical treatment, and his tumors are now shrinking! Richard, you have had some of the worst breaks of anyone I’ve ever met, and you have overcome them with courage, strength, class, and grace. To quote Steely Dan, “Do it again!”
Richard,
Our prayers will be with you as you win this battle. Know that the love and joy that you and your family have brought to so many, will come back to you tenfold in prayer!
Your friends and fans, Rick & Nancy from Rhinebeck NY

Dear Richard,
Praying for you in Canton, O. God is love. Met Susan this summer, I have so many fond memories of the Cowsills music. Get well man!
Dear Richard and Cowsill family,
My prayers are with you. I was recently diagnosis with thyroid cancer which was a total shock to me but had my surgery to remove the thyroid last week so I really empathize with some of the fears you may have but there are so many new medical treatments for cancer and many hospitals that have the new treatments that I pray God will lead you to the right doctors, hospital and treatment and you will get through this and be healed. I have recently while being off after surgery , looked on Youtube and have been watching Susan, Bob and Paul singing and have been thinking about all of you who were my idols when I was a young girl. My 9 month old granddaughter, Lexie has been watching Susan sing “The Rain the Park and Other Things” and seems to love that song, especially when I sing it too. So that is how I found this on the internet, having a renewed interest in the Cowsill family and enjoying the music. I’m glad because I found this information about your situation so I too can pray for your healing. God bless you Richard.
Our family will be praying for you Richard. You CAN do this. Have faith, keep that fire alive in you. All the things that you have heard, seen, lived and fought. This one more hill you can make. Keep praying, keep your head up and your heart happy. Eat good food, listen to good music, DON’T watch the news and you are gonna make it. We send you all our love and ((((((hugs))))))
Will be praying hard here in the south 🙂
Dear Richard;
Our prayers of strength and healing are for you and with you. Sending you light and love!
Caroline and Gregg

Richard & your family . Praying for you to be free from this cancer . My best friends niece just also went thru this last year , fought it and is cancer free . God works in mysterious ways and he has his arms wrapped around you and is there every step of the way . Fighters always come out the winners . Rich , on a personal side , I went thru a RO , near divorce and death of the man I thought was my husband , only to find out his death was faked .But God pulled me out of the fire pits of hell so many times these last 2 1/2 years . Fight it and you will win . God is walking beside you every step of the way ! Love The Cowsills ..
Richard and Susan our family sends prayers, love and hugs to you and your Loved Ones……The Lord will work out in His perfect will in your situation and bring about healing… Karen and Jerry Curtner
Richard, all my best wishes from Argentina ! Keep fighting ! 🙂
Richard, i pray for Father God to heal you even better than you were before and i pray for this for Father Gods Glory, by His Holy Spirit and in the all and all name of Christ Jesus! Amen(it is so,). Please read Philippians 4: 6,7. Love you bro!
Richard: You have the right attitude and lots of people who care about you and love you. Prayer is the answer, and I agree with everyone else in prayer that God will touch your life and continue making you the blessing you are to those who surround you. Keep the faith, man. God loves you!!!
We will be praying for you, Richard! We have always loved the Cowsills’ music, and we feel like we know you guys. Take care!
love, Jan and Richard
Healing thoughts and prayers to you and your family. You have so many people rooting for you. Please remember that as you continue to fight the good fight and WIN!
Richard, I have known you for many, many years, and one of the first things you ever taught me was that life might not always be a bowl of cherries, but if you think it is, it will be. To a man who can sell snow to Alaska and sand from a roadside stand in the middle of the hottest desert, you know I love you, and your family is right…when everyone puts their minds together in prayer, great things can happen. Praying for you everyday.
Dear Richard, Keeping you and your family in my prayers and staying positive. We all know what a tough and creative guy you are. Sending love and rays of positive, healing thoughts.
Yvonne
My wife and I send our thoughts and prayers to you and you will win this battle.
