Welcome to the NEW Cowsill.com!

If you have visited Cowsill.com in the past, you’re probably thinking Whoa, what happened? Well, we’re working on streamlining things around here but wanted to open this up so you could see where we’re headed. As the Internet changes and more and more people are using our MySpace and Facebook pages, we have wanted to make some changes here to make it easier for us to maintain this space and to keep you informed. You may notice some things are missing and they may or may not be back as we finish up the site redesign.

One thing that could be really useful to you that we haven’t had in the past is a way to subscribe to site news and upcoming gigs. In order to subscribe, you need to use an RSS reader. What’s RSS? It stands for Really Simple Syndication and it’s really easy to set this up. Take a minute and watch this video & set up your reader to get the latest news automatically!

If you use the Google Chrome browser, you will need to manually add the RSS feed to your reader due to an issue with that browser.

What do you think of the new look? Leave us a comment and let us know. Your comment will be moderated before it appears publicly.

  1. I just want to say that I saw your documentary on Show Time and I was very touched by your families story, thank you for letting me experience that piece of history.

  2. I tried to sign that HOF petition about 10 times with no luck. Any tips for what I’m doing wrong?

  3. I saw the Family Band movie in Providence, R.I. last summer, and I loved it!!!!! I hope it comes out on video!!!!! Can`t wait to see you back at the Mohegan Sun Wolfden soon!!!!!

  4. The only aspect of the forums I miss is, “Ask the Cowsills.” I really miss the photos. Please bring them back!!!!!

  5. I’m withholding judgment until your revision of the site is complete. If I understand correctly, the forums (e.g., The Cowsills: Community Forums,” “Ask the Cowsills,” etc.) are gone and may or may not be back. If the latter, I will decidedly dislike the change, because such features on your site have been so much in keeping with your well-deserved reputations for being down-to-earth and accessible! I see that we are still able to access the forums by Googling search terms such as “Ask the Cowsills,” but registration has been disabled. Please return these great features to your site for the sake of us, your doting fans!

  6. Cowsill family:

Something—can’t say what–led me to watching some of your videos on YouTube within the last week, and I started realizing how talented (and underappreciated at the time) your family group really was/is. I grew up in the ’50s, ’60’s, and ’70’s also, and when I came across the video/song ‘Some Good Years’ a couple days ago, it impacted me like a thunderbolt, being one who admittedly is overly-nostalgic for the past. I think this song is by far your best recording. Speaking of recordings, if I may make some strong requests if you all do another album.
I’d love to hear you do the Toto song ’99’, PLEASE give that one serious consideration, it is a tune tailor-made for you. (You can review the original video on YouTube also.) In addition, two others that you would be able to cover
exceptionally well, I believe: Lady Antebellum’s ‘Need You Now’, and Sugarland’s ‘Baby Girl’. (I know Country is
not your original style, but why not give it a try if you already haven’t? You are far too good *not* to try.)
Many other songs too, but I’ll just leave it at those three for now.

Thanks greatly for all your past work and contributions, they indeed call back to—in some ways—a better time that unfortunately shall not likely pass this way again.

  7. My friend Rosemary Rotondi is, to quote her website, an “archival film, photo, network news, headlines & articles researcher with 25+ years of experience”. She is currently searching Billboard for a project she is working on. Most of the stuff she is looking at now is from the 60s. She has found some Cowsill cartoon gems. The pages you should be looking at are 22, 24, 28, 30, and 32, in that order. (You might have to cut and paste)

    • Hey Rufus, this was awesome. I remember that was an MGM promo plan to introduce us and they used that Billboard magazine campaign. Really rare and I hadn’t seen it ever other than when it was happening of course. Please thank Rosemary for forwarding that.

      Best wishes,
      Bob Cowsill

  8. Boy I sure liked the forums at the old site. I don’t use facebook so I am glad this site is available to check for performances.

  9. I haven’t been here for a while, and though I like the videos, I wish the forums and all the photos were still here.

  10. I miss the forums on here. I hardly am on facebook much anymore since they have had so much trouble with it. Thats mostly how I kept touch with birthdays and people on here. Kittygirlsmom Lee

  11. It was initially scary but so are a lot of things!
It makes sense to streamline the site. I had basically dropped off all forums because I found Facebook to be more efficient. I can keep up with my Cowsill friends there as well as all my other friends. I know it’s shocking to learn that I actually have NON-Cowsill friends… !!

    • More photos will be added and I’m sure at least some of the Taste of Rhode Island ones will be among them.

  12. I hate change. Hate it, I tell you. Dag gummit.

Seriously, There is this African proverb that says, β€œWhen the music changes, so does the dance.” If there must be changes, this one is nice. I appreciate all the effort that has gone into it thus far.

  13. I too am having a problem with the RSS thingie. Last thing I need is more subscriptions and more accounts. UGH!

    • You do not need to set up an RSS reader to read what’s at Cowsill.com. You can just visit the site and see what’s new on the front page or in each of the archive sections. RSS justs brings the news to you automatically but it’s not required.

  14. Getting used to this new site. How come Bill’s picture isn’t included with the other 6 in the photo at the top?

    • There are multiple pictures that display at the top. The one with the six was taken the weekend of the benefit for Billy and Billy was not there which is why he is not in the picture.

  15. It’s a huge improvement over the old website. One nit-picky criticism: Could the generic font used for “THE COWSILLS” at the top be replaced with a version of one of their iconic ’60s logos? Other than that, I’m pleased with it.

    • The reason the logo isn’t being used right now (but may in the future) is because it’s tall which means the page content does not start near the top of the page if it’s used.

  16. LOOKING GOOD!!!!!
Love the idea that comments will be moderated…no politics, there are sites for that.

  17. It’s beautiful! I think the layout is great and I sure hope this saves you some time and work to maintain! Nice job Weblady Vicky! (I’ll get to that RSS feed eventually! LOL!)

  18. Looks cool!
    …very high tech…
Nice layout and colors that are bright without making my eyes bleed.
    AND functional.

  19. I like it. It easier to navigate through. Are you going to keep the discography page? I noticed it’s still there if you type it in manually. I like how it gave the dates of the 45’s as well as the albums.

Perhaps you can answer a question on the discography….my version of “We Can Fly” has the song “What is Happy?” on it but the old discography didn’t list it for that album and neither does your new Music page. Was that song added to modern versions of the ablum (CD)?

    • The discography will be moving to the new site in some form. The old pages will be going away at some point.

    • Logging in is only to make changes to the site. There is no need to log in to add a comment to a post, wish a Cowsill a Happy Birthday, etc.

  20. I like it! Very clean and polished. I like the appearances page, too. Much easier to read and you don’t have to try to remember what month it is and find the calendar! πŸ™‚ Good job, Vicky.

  21. Ok, I tried the RSS feed. When I click the symbol it takes me to a page that asks me to subscribe and gives me choices in a pull down. Which do I choose?

Is the rest of the website going to be like this, Vicky? Message board still there or will it be different, too?

    • You need to get an RSS reader to read feeds from Cowsill.com & you can use it for other sites too. If you have a Google account, I’d suggest that reader. If you have a Yahoo account that you check regularly then use that one.

Patience on the rest of the site. πŸ™‚
