  1. John, you are the best drummer the boys have ever had live, keeping true to the feel, tempo and fills originated by Denny and Hal. Most folks probably don’t realize how your playing makes the Beach Boys sound fresh today and not like an oldies review.

  2. John: Happy Birthday from this veteran who met you at last years Christmas event “Salute to the Troops” put on by Robert and Suzy Pence!
I am honored to have been able to see all of the events that night at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, you made my evening tho by just talking for a brief moment, and shared a picture, but I was finally able to tell you, Thanks again, for the beautiful song by the Cowsills called “HAIR”!
It was an anthem for us Marines while on patrol, every chance we had, we listened to it, it got us pumped for the patrols.
Happy Birthdsy to a great guy, and great drummer, oh by the way, we do share one thing in common I forgot to mention, I still play drums, hahaha, and was the drummer for the original 60’s band called, BRAND X.

  3. Hi John,

Sorry I missed your birthday – hope it was a great one! Just a note to let you know we will be in the front row at River Bend, Cincinnati on June 12! We’re so excited we can hardly wait. We will arrive early and hope to see you out and about somewhere prior to the show like we have before in Dayton, OH and Greensburg, PA. We were so surprised to see you the second time in December and were walking down the street talking about “What if we would run into John like we did in Dayton?” And just about the time the words came out of our mouths, there you were! We are always speechless when we see you and then think of things later we wanted to ask! You promised you would come back out and find us for a photo after the show. We were so happy when you actually did and it made a wonderful Christmas for us. Hope you remember us (ha-ha!) I also caught the pick Scott threw out after the Barbara Ann performance and gave to my son who plays the guitar and drums. I was wondering if you ever give out any autographed drumsticks or the ones you use in the shows. I would love to have a set for his Beach Boys memorabilia to go along with the guitar pick with Scott’s name.

We’ll be at Blossom Center on June 13, but we didn’t know anything about Live Nation when we purchased our tickets, so our seats are way back in Section 34, not where we’ve been used to sitting. Maybe you can help us with that problem! Hope to get to talk to you on the 12th and have pictures at the Meet and Greet. We’ve always done that ourselves, but since we paid the higher ticket price, we should be getting the VIP treatment, whatever that is! We’re counting the days until June and will watch for more dates near us. Hopefully we will be able to continue to attend BB concerts for many years in the future. If Mike and Bruce retire, please keep the music playing!! We love you!

  4. John,
    Happy Birthday!
If I would’ve know it was your birthday I would’ve baked you a cake.
Are you as old as me? You think I’d know who all the old guys are.
    I turned 60 in July. Wait a minute you’re still young…
I wish I would’ve taken the bet that I’d make it to this age.
Fact is I would’ve bet against myself to never make it to 60 the way I was going.
    Be good & have fun.
    Ed
