I know a few People that have written to try and save the House . Maybe Cowsill and Bill Fans should get together and write to the places that will help. The House is a beauty.

Does anyone have an address, company, person we can write to? Is their a petition somewhere, perhaps started in Calgary that we can sign?
That house is full of history anyway you look at it. It can be restored.

I wrote a letter to the Paper and The place that saves the old houses. The paper put my letter in the mail and it is on line at the other place also. I have written other places also. This is what I put on myspace blog.
Please save Bill Cowsills House
It has come to my attention a few weeks back that this house may be torn down.
Now This house has History and is a beauty. Not just because of Bill Cowsill.
Anyone that likes the Cowsills, old houses ,and RESPECTED Bill should help.
I am sure if enough of us try to help and write these People we may be able to save it before it gets torn down for some ugly building.
It would be lovely to have the House used again for a good cause.
Where is ole Blue his Car?
That could be added to the save the house list.
I may not have money but I do have Love for Bill Cowsill and for Old Houses.
So get up and write. Pass the word around. write the Government of Canada.
Cowsill & Bill Fan Clubs get a move on no matter where you may be.
Shout it to the Roof Tops we will not let this happen.
Protest !
Here is a start that you can write to.
Doesn't cost a thing but a few minutes of your time .
Bill gave us a lifetime of Love and Music and Hope.
He may not be on Earth but we can damn well try to help save his History.
Thank you Bill Cowsill you still live on in our hearts and soul and in that Haunting music and photos of yours.

I wrote letters to the Calgary Heritage society and the Calgary journal, too. I remember several historical places here being torn down for other things (progress I suppose) and nothing was every done with the property and it stands to this day bare except for weeds and trash! I would hate to see this happen to that lovely old house!!

Although Bill did not own the house at 1723 - 9th St. SW in Calgary, he did rent a portion of the main floor. I'd hate to see that lovely old home torn down, too! I feel that our best bet for making inquiries about saving the place would be to contact the Calgary Heritage Initiative Society (info@calgaryheritage.org), They expressed interest in the history of the home in a letter dated October 13, 2006, which is posted at www.calgaryheritage.org. Please see below.

To: Fosa Osazuwa File Manager Re: DP2006-3127 1723 9th St SW
The Calgary Heritage Initiative Society does not support the development permit application regarding 1723 9th Street SW...
This impressive brick house is an important landmark in Lower Mount Royal as it prominently marks the western terminus of 18th Avenue SW. It is our hope that it would remain a residence or be converted to a commercial use (such as offices), similar to other houses in the area.
The fact that this building is not presently on the heritage inventory attests not to any lack of value but to the incompleteness of the inventory. The Calgary Heritage Initiative Society is looking into the history of the house. We hope that the owner will reconsider demolition of the property and that the City will negotiate for the retention of the house. Some preliminary, though not yet validated research, suggests that this house may have been the residence of a prominent Calgarian in the music industry (Billy Cowsill).
Sincerely,
Janet Woolgar President of the Calgary Heritage Initiative Society

Hey Everyone,
With the anniversary of Billy's passing approaching, I have been thinking about him a lot lately. It was exactly 2 years ago to the day (January 21, 2006) that I last had a chance to speak to Billy at the Ship and Anchor pub. I feel happy that I got a final chance to tell him how much his singing meant to me. I got a big hug from the fragile Billy and just a couple weeks later he passed away. Damn, I miss that guy. I live in Calgary (had the pleasure of seeing Billy many, many times with The Blue Shadows and The Co-Dependents). I used to live two blocks from Billy's place for 7 years. I only live a twenty minute walk from it now. If you like I can go check on how the place is now (maybe get some more pics) and see if Blue is still there.
Keep On Rockin' Billy Rich Panteluk

The CBC radio Eyeopener is interested in the story of the Cowsill house. If you are a fan of Billy or the house, and are willing to be interviewed, or if you know more about the house itself, please send a note with your contact information and a bit about yourself (e.g. are you Calgarian or from far away), to info@calgaryheritage.org ASAP and we will put you in touch with the CBC researcher/reporter. Thanks.
