| When you read this account of my adventures of
CMIII, it will almost be somewhat dated material. I'm already home, but I composed this
while I was still in LA. It's 9/26 at 7AM and I'm seated in front of The Holiday Inn in
Woodland Hills. I'm gazing to my left and can see the Pub, the place where one-half of the
great times of this weekend occurred.
I'll leave the details to Hair heads like Damon and Salia because they do that so well.
I will just give somegeneralities.
First, the Hairheads. What a wonderful bunch of people. What a great time it was seeing
some old faces and meeting many new. It was an experience that I wouldn't trade for the
world. Bringing these nice people together is definitely one of the great things at
Cowsill.com.
Now, The Cowsills. Can these people ever let me down? I think not. Bob was a most
gracious host and made the effort to spend time with each and everyone of us. He is a very
nice man and extremely talented. I have never in my life heard a more soulful version of
*(Going to) Kansas City*. (BTW the song that was dedicated to out resident Kansite Becky).
Bob, I would love to hear more of that style singing from you. I mean, I love the ballads
too, but wow!!! I was blown away!!! Then there was Paul, a gracious host in his own right
and our resident blast of pure unadulterated energy. He is full of terrific stories and
knows how to keep the place hopping. He also is so talented, especially when digging in
that *box'o'tricks* he had at the pub. Paul, I'm envious of your energy level and it was
so nice to see you again!!! And John ... now what can I say that Norma hasn't
already so eloquantly stated. He is a nice person, a fabulous talent and just an all-round
terrific performer ... oh and not bad looking either. Thanks John for a terrific
time!! Then there is Robby who has the patience of a saint in dealing with anyone with the
last name Cowsill. And talk about talent... here's a for instance ... there was
more than one occasion (especially when Robby was seated at the front of the stage) where
the decision to do a specific tune was made by the brothers and a mere second before the
first chord was strummed they clued Robby in on what was being played and he just went
right there. Great seeing you again Robby!! And last but not least Paul's son Brendon ...
wow ... have the chromosomes been passed down or what!! He was fabulous with the guitar
and vocal solos. Now, is it me (and I know I had my first Corona in nearly three years)
but does Brendon resemble his Uncle John a whole lot (and I know, I know, after all they
are related but my, my!!) Great job Brendon. Hope we'll be hearing more from you at future
marathons!!
Now to the overall marathon. I think we really have a good thing going here and I want
to thank the Cowsills for making the marathons so enjoyable. I just know that each yearly
event will supercede the last and the numbers who attend will surely grow and rightly so.
Bottom line, the Cowsill Marathons take me to a space in time that is purely magical and
it's so hard to see the goodtimes end... but there is always next year.
Bob I said it in front of our somewhat small group there in the Deli, but I will repeat
my sentiments here for the world to see. Thank you to you and your family for taking time
from your busy schedules to make this CMIII such a success and for making my visit so
enjoyable.
To everyone who posts here and even those who just read occasionally, if you didn't (or
couldn't) make it to CMIII, do plan to attend CMIV when it rolls around. It is an
experience that you will never forget!!!
