Man,where have I been all this time. I feel so bad for Billy and his family. I was in high school from 65 thru 68 and always remembered Rain in the Park. I continue to play this song today. Bless you Billy, and you will always be remembered.

WOW, I just thought I would Google Cowsills while I was explaining to my musical son, of how I loved the song "Hair". My sisters and I would put skirts over our heads and swing them in the air like we were singers in the group. I heard your songs on Sirius Radio and glad to hear your group once more, what memories. Billy will be missed, and I honestly feel things happen for a reason, as bad as situations can be. I know he is up there singing with the best!

Here in Brasil we could hear on the radio the song 'the rain, the park, and other things' every December and they played for the whole month!
Maybe because the song is beautifull and makes people happy even those who could not understand the lyrics because it was in English.
Well this is the miracle of the universal language that we call music and the writters of this language have left their stamp on this world and will never be forgotten.Thank you Billy!!!

I was deeply saddened to learn of Billy's passing. I saw Bob, Paul and Susan on the Florence Henderson Show and was thrilled to see them and hear them sing again. I loved the Cowsills music. What a great legacy you leave Billy.

By sheer coincidence, I just happened to stumble across this site tonight while surfing the web and saw that today would have been Billy's 62nd birthday. The 60s were one of the greatest decades in America's history, our senses and sensibilities constantly challenged and expanded. There are times when I wonder how the same generation that condemned and marched in protest of the war in Viet Nam can stand by and condone the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Young Americans, the hippies of the sixties' children and grandchildren, are dying in countries half the world away and I don't understand why. I consider myself a patriot, raised by an Iwo Jima Marine, and I love this country, an Obama Republican proudly flying the flag outside my home every day but there are times when I wish America still had the rebellious spirit that not only led to its founding but defined the essence of America's coming of age in the sixties.

RIP, Billy! Long live the Cowsills! How can you not feel good listening to these lyrics, poetic ode to a long ago age and a tempered spirit:

Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

about Billy jamming in heaven with other musicians.

I know today is not Billy's birthday... but last week, I collected some photos of BILLY and added them to a song that Billy produced and played and sang on. He sounds awesome singing in the background... And... of course, he added an acoustic RHYTHM track that makes the groove on this record, well... at tight as any track can possibly get! Billy really loved the song. We recorded this in 1987 Vancouver, B.C. (More details on the youtube site below) I have another rare recording of a Billy original song that I hope to be posting on my youtube soon. (I recorded it myself in 1988 @ Darby Dawes Pub) I want to share Billy's wonderful music with the world. youtube is the place! As a matter of fact, I am now seeing other videos of Billy starting to show up on youtube.
so this link below will lead you beyond! Enjoy!

I heard of the song 'the rain, the park, and other things' on a radio station somehow but aside from this I knew absolutely nothing about the Cowsills. You see, I was born in 1968 and grew up in the early 70s in the Hayes Valley district in San Francisco. I grew up listening to all kinds of music, oddly I suppose, never was affected by the 'Flower power' movement happening in The Haight. Through the miracle of technology in the form of Youtube, I discovered to my shock and amazement about The Cowsills. There's so much to say, but what I do want to express is that Billy is inspiring. I bought a genuine Stratocaster Fender electric guitar in 2007 and am trying to learn to play it. There's more that I want to say but must wait for now. Bill, you've inspired souls, like myself....rest in peace.

Billy was in a class of his own. I got to see him play at a corporate gig that he did in Calgary once. A true professional, he played with energy and to the bankers and wankers that had paid him handsomely but were not really paying attention. I stood in front of the stage and listened while he sung straight into my soul. His voice, style and lyrics were the real deal. He asked me my name and we had a chat during a break. Down to earth cool guy with acid in his tongue and wisdom in his smile. I treasure that meeting. He was a legend.

I was just a little girl in the late 60's early 70's and didn't really hear your music until the mid 70's. Even then I had no idea you sang "The rain, the park and other things...I didn't even know the name of the song until recently. But I must say it is still a great song. I wish I had gotten to know your music earlier in life but at least now I am finding out more about you and your family and onter songs you did.

I am sorry to find out you and some of your other family members have passed on. May you all be at peace by God's side. God Bless the rest of your family still here on earth. Thank you for such great songs.

It's taken three yrs. or so to send my greatest love too the whole Cowsill family.I miss the real heartfelt tunes that Billy sang every night he got on the stage.I have many memories from his journey while in Canada. I drove him to do his stuff at different venues in Alberta and B.C. He used to lay on the bed in the back of the van and flick his ashes into the hole in that old guitar while Elmar rode shotgun with me. Another time I can recall that was breath taking was when Billy played Stampede week downtown in Calgary.Dell wasn't ten or eleven or so and was in town for a visit. He showed up at the gig that evening for a visit after he had been at the fair grounds all day. I was outside during one of the set breaks and saw Billy and Dell sitting out back of the club in the sunset on milk boxes.Billy had Dell holding the guitar and was teaching him some chords or a song.I regret to this day that I did not have a camera to record this wonderfull moment for us all.It will always be my favorite picture in my mind.I know now that Billy has the best band he has ever played with now that he is in heaven. He'll kick some ass with those guys and then some.Godbless Billys Kids

Even though I was born in 1962 my babysitter listened to the Cowsills. The songs that stand out for me are Indian Lake and Hair. Thank you for the music and my induction into music.
