Barry's music is timeless. I think "Don't Look Back" and "Down on the Farm" and "Dover Mines" are still just as meaningful and beautiful as his more recent "Kid" and "River of Love" and so many others. He really was a genius. And I think the Cowsills harmony never sounded better than on "Down on the Farm". What joy Barry continues to bring to this world. I only hope his children will know how much their father will always be appreciated.

I was so sorry when Barry passed away. I had the good fortune of seeing the Cowsills in Atlantic City when I was 12 years old. What a crush I had on Barry. I will always remember that day and the wonderful performance I was priveleged to see!

having moved away from RI in 2004 I only just heard from a friend about Barry's passing. Barry was part of the zany family of folks frequenting Billy Goode's bar in Newport. He was a brilliant entertainer and always a funny, whacky, genuine friend. After a visit down to New Orleans he once brought me back a plastic "jitney jungle" bag filled with mardi gras beads and fun masks .... and a really really cool bracelet made out of old coins from around the world! I still have that bracelet and I wear it a lot...makes me kinda choke up now.

I'm really stunned to hear of his death. Very sad.

I bet Barry would tip his hat rackishly, grin, and sing a bit of "don't cry for me Argentina!"

Barry I hope you did not suffer and I hope you have peace now
best wishes,
Lisa Lisa from Billy Goode's

I just listened to "Going Home." What an awesome song! I'm saddened that Barry is gone. Such talent will be greatly missed, but I'm happy that his music will always be with us. Blessings on his family.

I found out about Barry's death in People Magazine. What a shock it was He was only a yr older than me. I had no idea Bill had passed on either. Recently I decided to Google the Cowsills. How awful for the family not to know where he was for such a lenght of time Then to have his body found in such a state My heart goes out to them. Barry was my favorite way back when and I had a huge crush on him. He sleeps with the angels now. Rest in peace beloved Barry.

You know, being a fan is an odd sort of existance. You feel as if you have a close friendship with the person you admire and yet the relationship is really only one way. Nevertheless, I suppose because Barry and I were the same age was the reason why I admired him the most. At the time when Barry was a young teen and he and his family were performing for audiences, I was doing the same thing -- only my audiences were generally fewer than 100 people at a time and I never got a record deal.

As the years went by and I gradually gave up entertainimg for a college degree and a career in business, I continued to admire Barry and his family for living the dream that I finally had found too impratical to hang onto. So I was saddened when I learned of Barry's untimely passing. Losing him means that I have lost a little more of the dream which in the end is all I suppose a fan really has. God speed Barry! You and your family brought this wouldbe entertainer a lot of joy!

I was a huge Cowsill fan and when I heard of the passing of Barry and Bill it broke my heart. I had a huge crush on Barry back when the Cowsills came on the scene. Barry was only 3 months older than I am. I had seen them at the New Jersey County Fair many years ago.
When I think of them it brings back so many wonderful memories.

My love and sympathy to all the Cowsill family.

Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas, B. Thanks for the recent haunting...bet you got a kick out of it, didn't you? You scared the bejesus out of me at first until I figured out you were harmless. Hey, now that you mention it, that's exactly how I felt when I first met you in life!
I still Miss You (...& I've been walking Central Park, singin' after dark...)

We grew up with those Cowsill sounds and at night I'd get myself to sleep by letting my my 9 year old mind fantacize about saving Susan and running off and getting married at the age of 10. I used to call these "think stories". So I made up personallities for all the Cowsills. I know all this sounds strange....but that's how I was digging the Cowsills. It became a part of our American culture.

But about the music... I dug Rain, Park and Other Things...and I still do. I remember over the last 40 years listening to it from time to time and always thinking how good and intricate some of those harmonies were---especially for the multi 4 or maybe 8 track recording of that time ( 1967 ) .

I used to see the Cowsills on all the specials...and on the daytime TV shows. I remember thinking it wasn't cool to dig the Cowsills but you guys did sing well...and I knew that and so did everyone else.

I'm sad to see Barry and brother pass on...this old wheel just keeps on rollin' and rollin' along and there's so many things we're going miss as it just keeps rollin' along.

I feel so out of touch! I went through Katrina and then in my home town through Rita a few weeks later, and I never heard about Barry! I got to listening to Hair and was teaching it to my granddaughter, and it made us look up the Cowsills online. I am so sad about how Barry died. Barry, you were always my favorite poster on the wall as a young girl! I will always remember you fondly! God bless the Cowsill family and we send love your way from our family! Being victims of these hurricanes ourselves and losing a loved one as well, we can totally sympathize. This is such sad news to me!

I remember you Barry when you came to visit Billy in Vancouver, you sang all over downtown and I enjoyed it just like I enjoyed your brother singing. We lost a pair of great singers in you and Billy, now your with the greats, seeya in heaven.
The shadows on the walls
Sets the time and place
Music is the distance
That seperates your face
And all of the others
Well they can't be replaced
The song is about you
The song is without you
The song is about you

I've been so outta touch with N.O. since the storm. So sorry to hear you're gone Barry. Great soul/Big Heart. Barry was doin his thing even before I was born and continued to do so regardless of the knots on the head life gives you. I walked into Noiselab for my session and he was sitting in the kitchen a few years ago. Not many my age would know who he was or what great things he did. I implored him to stay and hang-out while we were tracking, even handed him and ax to give it a go and a mic to do harmonies. Very talented man and a funny bastard too. Carry those memories the rest of my days I will. Well B? "flights of angels" and all that, Again a true pleasure to meet you.
Peace
Matthew

You'll always be my "first love" - I totally wore out the album cover* -
"Cowsills at Lincoln Park Zoo" - we were both 11 years old.
You helped me "SING" with you - through your songs - and your smile and ..the thought that you were my friend through the music and all my teens ( and now I'm 51 yrs old)- and still - I love you, Barry! -
Rock the heavens - God is so glad you've arrived!
